Created in 1978, in the open air, on grass and on the edge of alleys, the Felícia Leirner Museum, an institution of the State Department of Culture, is located in an area of approximately 35,000 m², in Campos do Jordão (SP).
In addition to the lush landscape, mild climate and fresh air, the institution has in its collection 84 sculptures by Felicia Leirner, made of bronze or white cement. The works reveal the artist's passion for nature and portray the whole of a work divided into five phases: Figurative (1950-1958), Towards Abstraction (1958-1961), Abstract (1963-1965), Organic (1966-1970) ) and Clipping in the landscape (1980 to 1982).
The museum was considered one of the most important of its kind in the world by the Sculpture Magazine of the Washington D. C. International Sculpture Center (USA) in 1987.
From the work of Felicia Leirner, one of the most prominent national artists, contemporary Brazilian sculpture began to gain international traces.
At the Felicia Leirner Sculpture Museum, the public also has the opportunity to visit the Claudio Santoro Auditorium, where the Campos do Jordão Winter Festival is held annually, the largest classical music event in Latin America.
Management
Since its foundation on 11/27/1996, ACAM Portinari has as its main objective the development of the cultural area, particularly the museological area, through the technical-operational and financial collaboration, promoting the improvement, while museum equipment, qualifying them as regional centers of excellence for the implementation of public policies in the area of culture, issued by the Secretary of State for Culture.
Based on these assumptions, and by establishing a previously agreed schedule of activities and programming, it implements and executes such policies in the museum units under its responsibility. In addition to the Campos do Jordão institutions, ACAM Portinari is responsible for the Casa de Portinari Museum in Brodowski and the India Vanuíre Historical and Pedagogical Museum in Tupã, both in the interior of the state.
These museological units, created from 1956, are part of the network of Historical and Pedagogical Museums within the portfolio, and their characteristics favor the objective of their qualification as regional reference centers in the museological area, which in the near future should allow that act as true poles of public policies of the Secretary of State for Culture within the state.
