It is one of the oldest houses in Buenos Aires. Bartolomé Miter rented it in 1860, until it was given to him by the Buenos Aires people in 1868, at the end of his presidency. When it became his property, it only had the ground floor. Then the bedroom, bathroom and private desk of Miter were raised on a high floor, who installed in his house an archive and library, with more than 40,000 volumes, exclusively dedicated to American history and geography. The documents of General San Martín and the archive of General Belgrano stand out, as well as papers related to the English Invasions.

From the 18th century house, original elements are preserved in the walls, carpentry, ironwork and bars of the facade.
