Eighteen of May of 1850: the then province of Pernambuco enters a new phase of its life The Theater of Santa Isabel is today one of the 14 theaters of monument of the country recognized like National Historical and Artistic Patrimony, title that gained in 1949. pages full of operas, dramas, concerts, comedies, oratory tournaments, civic and political solemnities, dances, parties and dinners. The Santa Isabel was for a long time the stage of Recife, in all aspects: political, social and cultural.
In 152 years of existence, the theater has undergone three reforms. The most recent started seven years ago and consumed resources of the order of R 8.5 million. The neoclassical architecture of the early nineteenth century is now allied with modernity. The reform made use of technology that allowed for innovations in theater structure and comfort for viewers. The original architecture is preserved, but new technological features have been deployed.
