It is the highest volcano in Europe and one of the highest in the world, reaching approximately 3350 meters of altitude, varying due to frequent eruptions.
Besides being the highest volcano in Europe, Etna is also the highest mountain in Italy south of the Alps. The total extension of the base of the volcano is of 1190 km ², with a circumference of 140 km, what makes of the Etna surpass in almost three times the size of Vesuvius.
It is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and is practically in constant eruption.
