Salema
Salema beach, sometimes just Salema, is a fishing village in the village of Budens, municipality of Vila do Bispo, Algarve, located at the base of the coastal slope around the beach of the same name. The village presents visible marks of its connection to the fishing arts, with winding alleys between traditional houses painted white. The village is integrated in the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina.
Tourism
On the southern coast of the municipality of Vila do Bispo is the nice beach of Salema where, in addition to bathing, you can immerse yourself in the natural history of the region by discovering the footprints of dinosaurs there.
The beach is located in the village of Salema, a small fishing village, and serves as a fishing port, with the central section of the beach occupied by vessels and fishing gear, such as the covo or hook. Here it is possible to observe the return of the boats to the beach after the fishing and to try the octopus, the moray or the sargo, in the restaurants of the village.
At Salema there are also ruins of a Roman "villa" and a fish cannery, which testifies to the long fishing tradition of the place.
The beach has a beautiful promenade and terraces overlooking the sea. To the spring it becomes more wild and quiet, and one can observe, on the rocky walls of the arriba, footsteps of carnivorous biped dinosaurs, who populated this region some 140 million years ago.
