The Spanish foundation of Juli was given by the Dominican Legionaries on April 2, 1565, the same one that is located between 3840 m .s.n.m. at 4000 m.a.s.l., capital of the province of Chucuito at 85 km. from Puno, it is a beautiful and picturesque corner of growing attraction for tourism.
They enjoy deserved fame for the richness of their architecture, their craftsmanship and the art treasures that keep it, the Juli churches whose construction is also attributed in most cases to the Jesuits; Later it is elevated to Villa and named capital of Chucuito on July 3, 1828.
It is one of the highest populations in the country as it is 3992 meters high. The first bilingual works in Aymara and Spanish were printed there, dedicated to spreading Christian doctrine.
The city of Juli called the Little Rome of America, the Aymara Rome or the Holy City of Titicaca, is named for the construction of its splendid Temples, Juli had its heyday during the Colonial stage of our Peruvian history, the Greater Temple dedicated to Santo Tomás de Aquino today known as the Temple dedicated to San Pedro Mártir had a choir of 400 voices with native singers, the elegant towers of this Temple are depositories of the wealth of the Nairanaque mines in gilded altarpieces, Flemish images and carvings.
