The Llanganuco stream is located at 3800 m.a.s.l. and includes two lagoons: Chinancocha (female lagoon) and Orconcocha (male lagoon).
The first, commonly visited by tourists, has a turquoise green color in its waters. Its length is 1,450 meters, its width is 393 meters, its depth is 28 meters, and it is located on the slopes of the Huascarán snow-capped mountain, the highest in Peru.
Orconcocha, smaller but no less beautiful, is not accessible to the conventional tourist. Its celestial waters flow 910 meters in length, 368 meters in width and 7 meters in depth. Both lakes have been formed thanks to the thawing of the snowy mountains Huascarán, Huandoy, Pisco, Yanapaccha and Chopicalqui; the temperature of its waters averages 7 ° C at the surface and -3 ° C at the bottom. The union of these lagoons is possible thanks to the Chopicocha river, which in turn flows into the Ranrahírca river.
It is located in the department of Ancash, Callejón de Huaylas, within the territory of the Huascarán National Park, in the Llanganuco sector, 25 kilometers northwest of the city of Yungay. Regarding accessibility, it is two hours from the city of Huaraz, and to get there you can take any mobility that starts from the city itself, as well as you can access with your own vehicle.
As it belongs to the Huascarán National Park, the administration corresponds to INRENA, whose office in the city of Huaraz is located at Jirón Federico Sal y Rosas 555. The entrance costs are specified below:
Conventional ticket: one-day visit to areas for tourist and recreational use.
o Adult: 5 new soles.
o Child: 1.5 new soles.
Adventure ticket: lasts between 2 to 30 days. It encompasses areas of special-wild use that are vulnerable. The general cost is 65 new soles.
In Llanganuco you can do conventional tourism and adventure tourism. The first modality includes activities such as boat rides, horseback riding, walks around the lagoon and landscape observation. The second refers to trekking:
Cashapampa, Santa Cruz, Huaripampa and Llanganuco Circuit, 4 days long and 62 kilometers traveled, with a medium to high degree of difficulty.
