Apparently the name Pichanaki comes from the language of the natives of the area, which means: Picha: sweep and Naki: river.
In 1952 immigrants from the coast and mountains of Peru settled on the plains on the right bank of the confluence of the Pichanaqui and Perené rivers; later, in 1962, it started as a municipal agency with the appointment of its first Lieutenant Governor, politically dependent on the Chanchamayo District and the Tarma province.
San Francisco de Pichanaqui:
The founding of the town of San Francisco de Pichanaqui (1674), on the banks of the Perené River. Father Francisco Izquierdo with Bro. Terciano Pinto was named founder and superior of the new conversion. They said goodbye to their brothers from Cerro de la Sal and Quimiri, taking with them everything necessary for the foundation. Embarking at a point of the Perené in two rafts and in 03 days of journey they arrived at Pichanaki tributaries of the Right Bank of the Perené River. This first part of the Perené contains a series of eddies and dangers, which easily expose a shipwreck. The valley of Pichanaki was chosen as a central place, close to which it throws its waters into the Perené. This happened in June 1674. Father Izquierdo felt satisfied with his work, neither he nor anyone thinking that his beautiful plans were going to be ruined shortly and that he would be a victim of the Indians.
Pichanaqui in the 19th century:
Mr. Albino Carranza in his 1894 report gives us some information about the fields and Amueshas de Pichanaqui. ´´The chunchos that populate this region are relatively few in number; They live scattered by enemy tribes one from another. " "The Tribes that are in more contact with the civilized part with the Pichanaki mountain are those of the Amueshas that inhabit the region between La Merced and Metrado and the fields that extend further inland", "These are distinguished from those for their robust constitution, for being more active, with more developed intelligence and also for their more sympathetic appearance, especially women ”. “Chunchos are agile, cunning, reserved with strangers; they are also generous and hospitable ”.
Pichanaqui Foundation:
On May 1, the Father Delegate Friar Dionisio Ortiz celebrated for the first time in Pichanaqui, the feast of San José Obrero, the drawer containing an artistic 1.80 m image was opened. And next to it the images of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Saint Charles Borromeo.
The district of Pichanaqui was created according to Decree Law No. 24941 given in the Government House on September 24, 1977 by the President of the Republic Don Francisco Morales Bermúdez. By resolution of the Council, it was determined for October 8 to hold said action.
The District of Pichanaqui is located to the North-East of the city of La Merced, capital of the Province of Chanchamayo, 75 km away; 380 km from the city of Lima and 248 km. from the city of Huancayo; delimited by the Pichanaqui River on the North side and the Perené River on the East side, it is located at an altitude of 525 meters above sea level.
Pichanaqui is part of the Central Jungle of the Department of Junín, Republic of Peru.
Regarding its political makeup, the District is made up of more than 150 Annexes and Native Communities, which are located on the left and right banks of the Perené River. So also eat in the upper part of the Ipoki river respectively, with an approximate population of 48,450 men and women.
Its climate is tropical humid and warm, typical of the Jungle, hot in summer and with torrential rains in winter with the presence of sporadic winds that vary between 3 to 6 km / hour.

Enchanted Lagoon
Deep water lagoon of underground origin, it has a strong emerald green color, here it is possible to practice swimming and stroll with small rafts. It has numerous fish in the area.
It is a long strip of sand that begins at the confluence of the Pichakaki River with the Perené River. In ELLA you can find boats with outboard motor as well as the main gastronomic center of the Province.
Pichanaki Main Square
Called Juan Valer Sandoval, it is the center of the most dynamic district of the province. It is the headquarters of the National Coffee Festival and the International Jungle Marathon.
